Little One Feather

Little One Feather - This is the newest one. I Had the most exciting day when Grammy gave me this name. She came to visit me in our new home. Grammy has always visited no matter where we live. She brought a present, just like always. It was Bubbles. My first thought was that they were a child's game. I was almost 6 years old, I had no time for bubbles. I should have never underestimated Grammy. She gave me a feather in my hair and dubbed me Little One Feather: Creator and Destroyer of Bubbles. I thought is was her way of trying to spice up an uninspired gift. Boy was I wrong...

Grumpasaurus

Grumpasaurus – There I was in the car with Mommy. I had not eaten breakfast because I didn't like any of the cereal we had left, the Eggo's were all gone and we had no time for eggs. It was early afternoon and lunch was late. I felt a hunger deea in my stomach like nothing I felt before. My mom asked me what i wanted for lunch. Without even thinking about it I yelled "I DON"T EVEN CARE".

I knew it was wrong and that mommy was only trying to get me some food but i had no control over my words. "Settle down Grumpasaurus" mommy told me. But the name and the beast had already taken hold. Even at the restaurant with the food right in front of me I wanted to through it on the floor and stomp around angrily, again knowing it wouldn't help. Lucky for me mommy knows all the tricks for dealing with a raging Grumpasaurus. Even still I feel her lurking in the back of my mind on late lunch days...

Little Face

Little Face – This one comes from my dad's childhood. His parents (Poppa and Grammy) were so sickeningly sweet with each other that they had to code their pet names. Sweetie face, Honey face, Angel Face, Lovey face (gross) and every other incarnation got shortened to just “Face”, or at least that’s the story I got at a tender age. Grammy apparently held onto the idea of the covert lovey-ness of it. She tells me "When saw my baby girl for the first time and how little she was" (I actually was not tiny -22 ½ inches) "it wasn’t long until I was calling you Little Face". I love Grammy and the names she gives me.

Squid

Squid – My dad is from a long line of sea going folk. He is in the Navy and spends a lot of time at sea. Poppa (dad's dad) was in navy for a little while. Dad has uncles and grandfathers that sailed the seas all the way back through history to our family origin in Norway. Our Viking ancestor's had a family crest with a battle Squid holding a weapon in each tentacle. Dad tells people it is a mash up of Squishy Kid. But I know the truth.

An Introduction to me

A person’s name has great power. My dad told me a story of my nicknames. He said his mom cautioned him on the amount of nicknames he used with me. She said I wouldn’t know my own name because he so rarely used it. Her apprehension was, of course, for not. I love my name and embrace it and all the nicknames I have acquired along the way. They are all part of who I am... Zephira.
